Primary Eye Care

Tarail Upazila (administrative block) under Kishoreganj district of Dhaka Division is a remote rural area of Bangladesh where poverty is the accepted fact of in daily livelihood. In Tarail Upazila, one 50 bed government Upazila Health Complex is the only health care center of the sub-district. Community clinics are there, but people have to go to the Upazila Health Complex for regular health check-up. Said Upazila Health Complex is minimum 15 kilo-meters far from the proposed health care center of OHDIR Foundation. Not only that, there is no eye care center in the total locality. People of the locality are dependent on either the quacks or the private medical practitioners, who are really expensive for them.

Considering the real fact and sufferings of the common people of the adopted area OHDIR Foundation started its primary activity of Health Care Center in May 2015 through free health check-up, measurement of blood pressure and blood sugar at Akubpur village. Gradually the health care center of OHDIR Foundation has become a space of hope of the local people. Now, OHDIR Foundation is governing a primary health care center named ‘Dr. F. R. Bhuiyan Social Development Center’ where maternal and child care is available including limited curative care service. The charges of the available services are very much low and it has become a burning example of community financing.

After all the above history, there is not a single eye care center within the whole above mentioned administrative block which is inhabited by 190 thousand populations. In any case of necessity regarding eye related problem the people of the locality had to go more or less 30 kilo-meters far from their residence even before January 2018. Realizing the fact, OHDIR Foundation has established a primary eye care center to reduce the sufferings of the people of the locality at January 2018. Now a day, more than 15 patients are taking primary eye care service from ‘Dr. F. R. Bhuiyan Social Development Center’.
